Sunday Sightings 10/28/07

Boy am I sick of seeing pictures of Britney trying to cover her mouth. Britney regained visitation rights of her two sons. It also appears she struck a photographer with her car, but he didn’t seem to mind. She and KFed attended a Parenting Without Conflict class this week. Who’s going to teach her to take care of herself? Her soon to be released album Blackout is getting good reviews.

Reese Witherspoon seems to be officially dating her Rendition costar Jake Gyllenhaal.

The top three movies
Saw 4, bringing in $32.1 million
Dan In Real Life, bringing in $12.1 million
30 Days Of Night, bringing in $6.7 million

Kid Rock was arrested for fighting with a male customer at an Atlanta Waffle House.

Carrie Underwoodand Chase Crawford of Gossip Girl are dating.

In bloopers seen on the E channel, Steve Carell proved he’s an ignorant jerk with his inappropriate use of the word retard. It may not mean anything to him but I don’t plan on going to see any more of his movies.

Roof flap Nascar commercial

Sometimes the commercials put out by Nascar, Nextel and various race team sponsors are the funniest commercials around. My current favorite Nascar commercial shows a balding man sitting on a bench on a windy day. Two men going by see him, and the first man mentions “comb over” to the other. The second man replies “no, roof flap”. Only someone that watches Nascar racing would probably get commercials like these.

TV seasons

Ever wonder about tv shows and the seasons? For a long time many shows started inĀ  September, and ended somewhere between March and May. Now, many network shows begin anytime between September and October. Now it seems everybody is working on their own calendar. Law and Order isn’t premiering their season until January 2008. Shows like The Dead Zone run their whole season during the major networks off season, a plan that makes sense to me and fills up open time slots nicely. Shows such as Big Love that are on premium movie channels have a short season that only runs every year to year and a half. I wonder if advertisers find it confusing.

Samantha Who

I watched the series premiere of Samantha Who. It’s a half hour comedy series starring Christina Applegate, and it’s about a woman who has amnesia. We begin in the hospital where Samantha is waking from a coma. Her mother is played by Jean Smart and her father is played by Kevin Dunn. She is released from the hospital and goes to her parents’ house where she meets her best friend. She realizes she cannot live with her parents and goes to her apartment which she shares with her boyfriend Todd, played by Barry Watson. It’s hinted they have some issues. She goes to a party with her boyfriend, where she discovers she’s cheating on him with a married man named Rene, whom she has no memory of even after he kisses her. She finds a 30 day AA chip in her purse and goes to a meeting where she can’t remember what foods she likes (which serves as a great analogy for everything going on in her life). She is asked to leave the meeting. She goes home and during the conversation with her boyfriend discovers he’d broken up with her just before the accident. I liked it and will watch it again.

What does it matter that Dumbledore is gay?

Last week author JK Rowling told the crowd at Carnegie Hall that the character of Albus Dumbledore is gay. Now there’s all sorts of hubbub. I myself am not sure what the commotion is about. I have read every Harry Potter book and seen all the movies released so far, and enjoyed them. I don’t even consider them as sexual, I consider them as students and children. I am unclear what the big deal is that Dumbledore is gay. Clearly it didn’t affect his skill and power as a wizard. The only thing I see it did is made him human and have feelings. So what if he fell in love with Gellert Grindelwald, whom at one point he battled. It’s not ever been a point covered in a book or movie, so it’s just an after the fact detail that changes nothing. If you think Dumbledore being gay somehow matters in context of book or movie, please comment why.

Sunday Sightings 10/21/07

Britney Spears has lost visiting rights for both of her children. Her next court date with KFed is 10/26/07, which looks like the soonest she’d get back her rights.
She’s held some auditions for a new music video. Maybe she’s looking for the next Mr Britney.

Top Three Movies For The Week
1. 30 Days of Night, $16 million
2. Why Did I Get Married, $ 12.1 million
3. The Game Plan, $8.1 million

At the premiere of her movie with David Duchovny, Halle Berry said her baby has upstaged her.

Pamela Anderson has gotten married again. Meanwhile, Kid Rock was sighted with paris Hilton.

Lindsay Lohan is “in love with” Riley Giles, a snowboarder she met in rehab. How promising.

I hate premptions!

I hate it when a show I’m watching is preempted for something stupid. Important news is an acceptable reason to interrupt tv shows. But Joe Torre turning down a five million dollar, one year, performance based contract is hardly news worthy of a preemption at all, never mind one longer than a half hour. I know some people love baseball. (I’m not one of them.) but come on people, there’s real news out there. The story would have kept until the 5pm news.

Cavemen

I hate the Geico commercials with the Cavemen. I’ve always thought they were dumb. I wanted to check out the Cavemen series, to see what it was about. In one word it was exactly what I expected, awful. I watched the 10/09/07 episode. This was the show’s second episode. Apparently three cavemen live together in a rented apartment. Joel has the job and is the only one that has been paying the rent. He gets roommate Nick a job with him at the local home improvement store. Nick goes to work and seems to be rather lazy to me. He’s fired and decides he was fired because he’s a caveman and wants to file a lawsuit. Joel lies and tells him he did a good job. The third cavemen keeps trying to be nice to a female neighbor who is frightened by him. I have no intention to watch this show again.

Fox Business Network channel premieres today

News Corp.’s Rupert Murdoch has something new to play with and he doesn’t want to share. The new item I speak of is the brand new Fox Business Network channel, which debuts today. What doesn’t he want to share? The television market, of course. He wants to take the number one spot that CNBC currently possesses. (Wow possesses has a lot of s’s.) The target market? Middle class everyday people, including amateur investors. FBN wants the consumer market, so it appears they will be putting extra efforts into the time slots after the market closes. How he’s going to try and win the spot? By entertaining the viewers and making things easy to understand. It’ll take some time to see if the channel accomplishes the goal. The channel starts making its way into thirty million homes today 10/15/07.
