What does it matter that Dumbledore is gay?
Last week author JK Rowling told the crowd at Carnegie Hall that the character of Albus Dumbledore is gay. Now there’s all sorts of hubbub. I myself am not sure what the commotion is about. I have read every Harry Potter book and seen all the movies released so far, and enjoyed them. I don’t even consider them as sexual, I consider them as students and children. I am unclear what the big deal is that Dumbledore is gay. Clearly it didn’t affect his skill and power as a wizard. The only thing I see it did is made him human and have feelings. So what if he fell in love with Gellert Grindelwald, whom at one point he battled. It’s not ever been a point covered in a book or movie, so it’s just an after the fact detail that changes nothing. If you think Dumbledore being gay somehow matters in context of book or movie, please comment why.
