My Best Friends Wedding

I watched the movie My Best Friend’s Wedding for the first time. The movie came out in 1997 and was billed as a comedy and romance. Julia Roberts portrays a woman named Julianne who realizes that she’s in love with her best friend Michael (a man portrayed by Dermot Mulroney) when he tells her that he’s getting married to Kimberly (portrayed by Cameron Diaz). She decides she’s going to try and break them up, leaning on and occasionally receiving help from her other friend (a man, portrayed by Rupert Everett). I really enjoyed it. It was actually pretty funny. One of my favorite scenes is where Julianne jumps in a delivery truck and, without even pausing to get her bearings, starts chasing Michael, who’s in a car chasing Kimberly.

A surprise Highlander rerun

As mentioned previously I watched an afternoon of Highlander reruns. In an unexpected surprise I actually saw an episode I’d never seen before. It was the fifth episode of the first season. It was broadcast in 1992 and it was called Freefall. Joan Jett guest starred in the episode. She looked completely different then she did in video footage I remember of her, as well as her performance in the movie Light of Day. Duncan does not kill her in their battle, which led me to think the producers and writers were leaving room to bring her back for one or more later episodes. I looked online and couldn’t find any mention of any other episodes with her in it.

New television in the house

My parents got my youngest son a new television and dvd player for Christmas. It’s nicer than mine! They got him a 26 inch Westinghouse high def flat panel and a Sony dvd player. His television was only a tiny 13 inch analog model that has been used a lot since it was bought. That tv is probably on for a good 12-16 hours per day. We have no other flat panel televisions in the house so I’m looking forward to checking it out.  It isn’t up yet, we’ve got to get a bracket to do it. I’ve got to wait for my Dad to tell me what we’ll need to get it hung, since I’m sure it will require a bit more sturdy than cabinet or door hardware. I bet the picture will look so much nicer then what’s in there now. What an awesome gift!

Highlander

Anyone else remember the Highlander series? I thought Adrian Paul was very good looking, even though I’m not usually a fan of men with ponytails. We used to watch this series every week, and we saw all of the movies. I haven’t seen any of the old episodes from the series in a long time but today hubby left the SciFi channel on and there’s a whole day of the Highlander series. What a blast to the past!

The brothers on Two and a Half Men

We watched some shows from the hard drive yesterday. I really enjoyed this past week’s episode of Two and a Half Men. The episode was called “The Devil’s Lube”. Emilio Estevez, real life brother to series star Charlie Sheen, appeared on the show as a buddy from Charlie’s past. Other than putting on a little weight (nothing most of us haven’t done and nothing a little Leptovox wouldn’t help with), Emilio looks the same as ever. The episode was pretty funny. My favorite part of the episode was actually when they gave Alan (Jon Cryer) some stand up type one liners at the funeral. Did you see this episode?

Holiday commercials

I’m not crazy about most commercials but I do like some of the ones that start appearing around the holidays. Some of them are so sentimental that they actually bring a tear to my eye. Some of them are funny. The commercial I like the most so far this year features the Budweiser Clydesdale Horses having a snowball fight. It doesn’t have any people or voices. It doesn’t have any English saddles, actually the horses have no gear on at all. Just a little background music and two groups of horses, snow and a tree. It’s very funny. Have you seen it?

Leno retiring but not retiring

When I first heard that Jay Leno was retiring in 2009 from the Tonight Show I thought that it meant he was retiring. Uh, no. NBC recently announced that Jay will be on a new primetime show that will air five nights a week at 10 pm. The show will be live and apparently consist of the same type of material he offers in segments on The Tonight Show currently. To me it sounds like it’s just a remake of the Tonight Show, not a whole new show.

Who watches tv on a cell phone?

The Blackberry plants must be running on overdrive, because it seems like everyone has one. I don’t have a Blackberry. I know a few people with one but we’ve just never sat and discussed our phones. Is there anything these magical devices cannot do? I never knew that you could watch television on a Blackberry until today. I can’t think of a time when I’d watch any shows on my cell phone. Isn’t that what televisions are for?

I want my Dirty Sexy Money

This past week’s episode was awesome, I don’t know how it is that ABC doesn’t think this show is worth keeping on. Yes, it’s a night time soap, a drama. But the actors on there do a great job. I especially love the men. Peter Krause is awesome as Nick. He gives his character such balance and patience, he keeps his cool through it all. I’m not familiar with his work prior to this show but he’s quite talented. Billy Baldwin does the best job as Patrick. I’ve loved Billy since I first saw him in the movie Sliver. Donald Sutherland is awesome as Tripp Darling, he has a presence and talent that make him perfect for the role.  Blair Underwood as the mysterious rival and bad guy Simon Elder is an example of perfect casting. I want to know how they’re planning on wrapping everything up? They can’t just let it end without answering questions for the fans. There’s things we need to know, one of which is who killed Dutch. If you’d like to help try and save Dirty Sexy Money there is at least one online petition going here.
