Commercials for fall season now airing

I’m starting to get a bit excited. I’ve been seeing more and more commercials for fall shows airing, mostly in prime time. I wonder how many pens the writers went through trying to explain things - the growth and aging of castmembers, current events, scenery, pretty much everything. It will be interesting to see.

An extreme waste

In 2005 Extreme Home Makeover demolished the rundown home of the Harper family of Clayton County, GA and built them a mansion. That mansion is now in foreclosure, due to go to auction on 08/05. I know it’s been stated that the show advises all families to get financial advice after receiving a makeover. What I don’t get is this. Many of the families that get a makeover are limited financially. Why doesn’t ABC put some sort of legal wording into a contract to protect the houses people worked so hard to build from being foreclosed upon?

Home Improvement in reruns

My and RB used to always watch the comedy series Home Improvement, which has been off the air for a number of years now. It’s reappeared in the form of reruns, on Nick At Nite. My son TJ loves to watch it, apparently he thinks it’s as funny as I used to. If you’ve never seen the show, it’s about Tim “the Toolman” Taylor, his family, his home improvement show Tool Time and his constant accidents when working with tools. His family didn’t even want him to do work on their own house. Whether it was kitchen faucets, outdoor lighting, plumbing or electrical, you could count on Tim to mess up the job. If you want a good laugh, check out Home Improvement on Nick At Nite.

Bath fitters commercial

Our old bathroom is pretty old, almost forty years old. Almost everything in there including the sinks, the toilet and the tub need replacing. RB saw some commercials for Bath Fitter and thinks we should look into it. I think he’s crazy. Bath Fitter doesn’t actually replace anything, they just put new custom covers over the shower or tub. I ran into someone that had it done and was told it was expensive.  I mean why pay that much when the exact same amount of money will redo an entire bathroom brandy new?

Update on GH Night Shift

Well, I’ve just finished watching the season 2 premiere of the SoapNet  series General Hospital Night Shift. I just don’t get what they’re trying to accomplish here. The main characters here seem to be 3 characters from General Hospital. There are one or two cast members from Night Shift’s first season but for the most part it’s all new faces. Jagger arrived in Port Charles, he hasn’t been on General in so many years I forget how long it’s been. One of the characters they kept from the first season, Dr Julian, has been recast with someone who looks and acts nothing like him. Robin and Patrick are moving forward with the pregnancy storyline that’s occurring during the day, so obviously there is show carryover. So far I just don’t see the point. Any GH fans out there? What are your thoughts?

The Walt Disney World commercials

Have you ever seen any of the commercials for trips to Walt Disney World? They always seem to involve a set of parents and two kids. It always seems to be night time in the commercials and a horse drawn carriage is always involved. Without a doubt, Walt Disney World is the best of Orlando vacations, but do little kids get the connection between horse drawn carriage and magic? My oldest never got excited when he saw these commercials. If your kids have seen Disney commercials, how did they react?

Have you ever missed a movie everyone you know saw?

All of the women I work with have seen a movie called Best In Show, which I have never seen. I’d not even heard of it until they got to talking about it. My understanding is that the movie is a comedy about a fake dog show. The cast portrays dog owners and handlers, and the movie featured real dogs. (I bet they needed a lot of dog supplies for that movie.) I’m curious enough after hearing them talk about it that I might try and find it on tv to check it out for myself. Have you seen Best In Show? Did you like it?

General Hospital Night Shift returns tonight

I just saw a commercial letting me know that the SoapNet series General Hospital Night Shift premieres its second season tonight. I’m confused. Last year when the series began the network said the storylines of General Hospital and General Hospital Night Shift were separate and that viewers wouldn’t need to watch both. As a regular viewer of General Hospital I found that last season many things made no sense. I’m wondering how they’re going to manage things this season. Once again several General Hospital actors will be pulling double duty, so they’ll probably need some energy pills. Robin, Patrick and Epiphany are the only main GH characters that I know of, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see if Jason and Spinelli appear on Night Shift again. I hope it’s better than season one, if not I may not watch.

Goodbye Estelle

Actress Estelle Getty passed away this morning at the age of 84. If you’re my age you probably remember the comedy series Golden Girls that was on in the second half of the 1980s. Estelle Getty portrayed Sophia, the mother of Bea Arthur’s character, on the successful series for more than seven years and won an Emmy for her role. I always thought she was adorable and that they gave her the funniest lines. Goodbye Estelle, you’ll be missed.
