Paul Newman passes

The talented and well known actor Paul Newman died of cancer at his Connecticut home yesterday at 83 years of age. My first memory of Paul Newman was in the movie The Color Of Money.  According to an MSNBC story that I read he had appeared in major roles in more than fifty movies. People may not be aware of Newman’s charitable interests. Anyone that goes to a grocery store has probably seen his line of foods, Newman’s Own. What people may not know is that all profits from his foods are donated to charities, and that through 2007 more than $175 million had been donated. Newman also set up several camps for children with terminal illnesses. Goodbye Paul.

Opportunity Knocks

I’ve seen some commercials for a new show called Opportunity Knocks. Apparently on this show random families will get a knock on their door and open it to find a tv game show on their lawn. That’s where the family will have a family game night and have to answer questions about their family members, things that have happened in their lives and articles found in their home. During some challenges the tv camera will go into the family home to record. Ok now, it’d be one thing to have to answer if anyone in my family drank orovo or not. It’d be an entirely different thing if a tv camera crew wanted to go into my house. If I didn’t know they were coming the house would need to be cleaned before going on tv. I wonder if they allow for that.

The Starter Wife to return

I’ve seen a couple of commercials on television that the series The Starter Wife will be coming back. For some reason I thought this show was cancelled. Anyway, the season premiere is on October 10 at 9pm on the USA network. I hadn’t realized that this series was based on a novel called The Starter Wife by Gigi Levangie Grazer. I don’t know how true to the book the series is but I’m thinking aobut ordering the book. Have you read it? How was it?

Gossip Girl Season 2 underway

Gossip Girl is back on since the first week of September and of course I’ve been watching it. Everyone looks the same as before, noone looks like they’ve taken too many Fenphedra and noone looks like they need any either. The storylines this year are heating up quickly, starting with Nate pimping himself to a much older woman who happens to be Blair’s boyfriend’s mother for money. Blair’s boyfriend wouldn’t sleep with her so I was wondering if he’d turn out to be gay but after he saw Blair kissing Chuck he seemed a bit more responsive. Serena and Dan decided not to be together and in the commercial for next week it looks like they’ll both start moving on but not liking what they see. Jenny’s interning in the fashion industry. I’m enjoying season two so far. Do you watch Gossip Girl? Thoughts? Predictions?

I wish Robby Gordon would go away

RB and I aren’t fans of Robby Gordon. He always seems to be involved in accidents and he always seems to be whining. Today Jamie had an outstanding car and could have had a chance to win or finish very well. Robby Gordon was a lap down and kept fighting to not go further back when he got loose sending Jamie into the wall. How I wish he’d move to another series of lose his sponsors or something, I just want him to go away.

Bring back the Woodcocks on til Death

We watch Til Death, the half hour comedy that stars Brad Garrett and Joely Fisher as Eddie and Joy Stark. We started watching this show last year and enjoyed it. The Stark’s newly married neighbors Steph and Jeff Woodcock were played by Eddie Kaye Thomas and Kat Foster.  Viewers were treated to watching the humorous differences between couples who’d been together for many years and their newlywed neighbors. There’s been no sighting of the Woodcocks this season, apparently Fox decided to and replace their vacancy with the character Kenny (played by JB Smoove). Like those pills for dieting that you’ve read so many warnings about, I’m warning you that the show doesn’t deserve to stay on the air if it continues on its current track. All I can say is Kenny isn’t funny, he’s annoying. The show has turned into garbage the way they’re writing it now. The dynamic of the two couples was funny and made sense. This storyline is awful and we’re not watching it any more. Bring back the Woodcocks!

90210 baby daddy

I’m watching 90210 (the new one). It’ll be interesting to see where they go with some of the stories and characters. Kelly Taylor has a young son this time around. On tonight’s episode there is again mention of “him”, the baby’s father. Brenda was going on and on telling Kelly she wasn’t over him and on and on and all of a sudden she said “you’re still in love with Dylan.” I thought for sure the baby’s father was going to be Brandon. Did anyone else see tonight’s episode?

More Ike and some movie madness

Ike is still receiving a lot of coverage, I think we’ll be seeing it for several days due to the ongoing rescue efforts and the extensive damage. The only thing I think I saw get more coverage today than Hurricane Ike was a commercial. Do you know what commercial I saw ten times today? No, nothing useful like previews of 2008 Black Friday sales. I’m referring to commercials for the movie Ghost Town. Enough already!

Hurricane Ike

We’ve been watching coverage of Hurricane Ike for a while now. More me than RB, he fell asleep on the couch two hours ago. We found a Houston channel on our DirecTv that’s broadcasting nothing but storm coverage. The win is really picking up now, sometimes the reporters look like they’re having a hard time keeping their feet on the ground. Ike is close and they’re predicting the eye will cross the coast any time now. He is huge and nasty looking. The Houston channel is showing footage similar to this one that comes from The Weather Channel. I’ve heard it mentioned several times that Ike is almost the size of Texas. In this picture he also looks almost the size of the Gulf.

Are you fascinated by live coverage of severe weather, or do you turn it off?

Privileged premiere repeat

For once I’m glad that an episode of a show is going to be shown again. The new series Privileged premiered last week. I’d hoped to check it out but I forgot it was on and missed it. The premiere episode will be replayed this Sunday 09/14/08 at 8pm est for me. The normal time slot for this show will be Tuesdays at 9pm on the CW network. All I know about this series is that it’s about a woman who becomes a tutor for spoiled twin granddaughters of a rich woman in Palm Beach. I’ll take a peek at it. The pics online showed all young attractive people that looked like they’re prefer to have Lasik surgery rather than wear eyeglasses. Did you see the premiere? What did you think?
