The episode “The Checks” aired in 1996. After Jerry receives tons of checks from a brief appearance on a Japanese television show. They discover that the checks aren’t nearly as impressive as they might seem, since the conversion rate is low. Kramer, who’s had a hot tub installed in his apartment, takes some Japanese businessmen around town and manages to spend all of their money because of the conversion rate. With nowhere to go he has them stay at his aprtment. He lets them bed down in a giant chest of drawers. He had his own little motel going on, all he was missing was tv mounts.) He got the dresser from Elaine’s boyfriend Brett, a guy who’s mysteriously obsessed with the Eagles song Witchy Woman and who thinks Jerry is jealous of him. In the end the hot tub makes the apartment so humid that the Japanese businessmen are stuck in the chest. Jerry has to use an axe to get them out, scaring them in the process and hurting Brett.
