It seems that commercials for products and services related to weight loss products are on the rise. Recently they’ve begun trying to pass law in Spain stating that commercials for some diet and beauty products would not be able to be shown before 10 pm. The reasoning is that they don’t want to encourage “body worship”, meaning they don’t want to foster a fixation on weight within the viewers. What are your thoughts on limiting certain commercials to late night?

For a long time one of the biggest weight loss success stories out there was that of Jared and Subway. It had been said that Jared lost over 200 pounds just by eating Subway sandwiches for lunch and dinner. I don’t recall any mention of exercise or fitness equipment but would think he must have been doing something besides eating sandwiches to lose that much weight. I haven’t seen Jared in any commercials in a while now. Last year the Subway commercials I saw had Tony Stewart, Michael Phelps and another celebrity. My favorite Subway commercial to date had Greg Biffle in it getting pulled over by a police car with a sub between his knees. It just looked funny. Do you have a favorite Subway commercial?

I used to see commercials for acne products on television all of the time. I’m guessing that industry is changing, as are many others, because I don’t see many commercials for those types of products any more. Rather than commercials people are turning more and more to the internet. There are now websites devoted entirely to subjects such as blackhead extraction. What commercials have you noticed an increase or decrease in?

One thing I have never seen a commercial for on television is holiday cards. I actually can’t even think of any stationery commercials that I’ve seen off the top of my head. They probably don’t have many, or any, because it would be pretty hard to buy stationery over the television. The time the product could be shown would be so short that people wouldn’t be able to see the product long enough to make a decision if they wanted to buy it. Have you ever seen a commercial for stationery?

Not all that long ago I used to see tons of commercials for acne treatment products on television. I haven’t seen any of those lately but I have been seeing a lot more commercials for cosmetics. There seems to be a television show for almost everything but I haven’t seen one on cosmetics. I would love to see a television series on how to correctly use and apply makeup. I think that would get a lot of people watching. Heck, you could probably make a whole television channel just on makeup.

I loved the last Playtex commercial. It was truthful and funny. Well, the folks at Playtex have done it again. They have made another great commercial, this one for Playtex Secrets. I don’t know if these women have been scripted or if they’re speaking from experience but either way I love it. They’re not talking about belly fat, they’re talking about the issues that large figured women have with bras. How can you not love this? “You know when the muffin’s got the top and the boob…” And the best one. “Gravity is no longer my enemy. But brownies are.” Have you seen this comercial? Don’t you love it?!

In commercials they usually show trucks the same way you see them on the car lot. The factory installed grille looks nice the way it is, don’t get me wrong. But I think that the truck grilles that people add on after purchase are nicer than the ones that come standard.They’re just a bit more elaborate looking, and definitely more unique.

Did you ever notice that many of the bathrooms that you see on television have those giant smooth, square tiles? Did you know that they can be dangerous? When we were doing our bathroom my Dad explained that the smooth tile doesn’t give water anywhere to go and since the tile has no texture you’re more likely to fall. He told us the better choices for a safe and attractive bathroom floor were smaller tiles or tiles with texture. while we were shopping I decided I liked the look of granite tile and want to redo my kitchen counter. anyway. We have a textured small tile in the bathroom. What’s on your bathroom floor?

Did you ever notice any of the commercials on television where they show people working in a call center? You know, the ones that show a girl or a guy wearing a headset working inside a huge cubicle with 6 foot walls. I worked in one for more than ten years and they don’t look or sound like that. They’re certainly not quiet. You could make a television show based on the lives of people working in a call center.

Some companies are feeling the economic pinch as much as individuals like you and I. I’ve stopped seeing some commercials and others have changed.  One type of commercial that seems to be going strong is those commercials for cheap life insurance for senior citizens. I don’t mind these much, as far as commercials go - they’re less annoying than some of the others. Besides giving a little information they also seem to be a great way for retired celebrities to bring in a little income, no?
