Our new big tv

I liked the previous theme that Our Big TV was running but I really wanted widget capabilities instead of always being in the code. So after surfing through who knows how many theme sites I came across this one and I rather like it. I like the color combination of white, black and blue and this should be much easier to work with and maintain. It seems lighter and brighter, and it may be my imagination but it also seems to load more quickly. I even made a little header. So come on, let me know. What do you think of the new look?

Review of Juuust A Bit Outside

This afternoon I reviewed a blog called Juuust A Bit Outside.

The first thing I see when the blog loads on my screen is the header. The colorful header is bright and contains sports images. Juuust A Bit Outside is currently on a two column theme of red and white. It takes me 35 clicks to get from the top of the blog’s home page to the bottom.

The category and archive pages are easy to find. Chris’ sidebar is neat and uncluttered. I do have two suggestions regarding the sidebar. The first is to move the Back to Main Page link up to the area of categories and archives.  The second is to move the rss subscribe further up in the sidebar, perhaps just below the categories. People might not see it down at the bottom and it’s more likely a reader will subscribe if they’ve read a little and like the content and it’s fresh in their mind.

Juuust A Bit Outside is a sports blog, and all of the content on it is sports related. The writing is original and the posts are of greatlength and have terrific substance. You can tell from reading the posts that the author loves his subject matter and puts thought into his writing. Chris frequently includes pictures in his posts. Go check out the playing field at Juuust A Bit Outside. When you enter the park, please tell Chris that valmg sent you and GO GIANTS. Also, tell him he needs a Nascar category.

Review of Anime Fans Online

Today I’m reviewing the blog Anime Fans Online, a 451Press blog about the culture that surrounds anime and manga. The blog is authored by Jason.

Anime Fans Online is on white, blue and gray two column theme. It took me forty clicks to get from the top of the home page to the bottom. The sidebar is very neat and tidy. Categories and archives are clearly marked and easy to find. Anime Fans Online displays a brief About blurb, but it doesn’t share any info on the author Jason.  Obviously Jason is a fan of anime because he’s started this blog, but who is he?

Posts are original content and are well thought out. Many of the posts review a show, movie, episode or dvd. Reviews often includes a brief summary as well as his opinion on what he’s watched.  The blog also touches on news withing the anime industry. The blog is loaded with pictures, which complement the reviews nicely.

If you’re interested in anime or want to learn more about it, this would be a good place for you to start. If you check it out please tell Jason that valmg sent you.

Review of Fanatic Space

Today I’m reviewing Jason’s blog at FanaticSpace.com. Fanatic Space is a website where fans are meant to gather. It offers specific forums where people can find others who share the same interests. The site also offers a blog, which is what I’m reviewing.

The Fanatic Space blog is on a customized white and blue two column theme. Jason’s done some work here with the coloring of the boxes in the theme. It took me 21 clicks to get from the top of the home page to the bottom. A few suggestions for the sidebar. Shorten the width of the search field, the email address field and the archives field, they’re poking out of the box. I was not able to find a category list, and I really like those because I think they help readers find relevant content.

The Amazon unbox is pretty big. I myself am not a fan of it but if you plan on keeping it perhaps there is a way to blend it in more naturally. It’s black, where everything else isn’t, and it stands out because it is a different size and is aligned differently than the other boxes.

Fanatic Space does offer an about page, but it doesn’t contain any information about the author Jason.  I for one would be interested in knowing why Jason started a fan fansite. Posts are well worded original content. Jason’s trying to build readership, and even offers forums for visitors. Why not go check out Fanatic Space and see if you can find others that share your interests? Tell Jason that valmg sent you.

What about a tv meme?

I’m contemplating making a new meme to make new blogger friends and increase traffic to the site. It would have a few random questions pertaining to what you watch. I’m thinking of starting it as a tag meme, meaning I’d tag 5 people to do it and hopefully they’d do it and tag 5 people, and so on and so on. Any thoughts on frequency, number of questions, etc?
