I’d never seen or heard of disposable DVDs until today. I saw a rack of them in a small store nearby. They were selling for $4.99 and the box said that you could watch them as many times as you like within 48 hours, at which point they’d become unusable. We don’t rent DVDs to begin with, if there’s something we want to see either wait until it’s available to rent by pay-per-view or we wait until we can buy the DVD. If we did rent DVDs I don’t see any advantage that would make me get one of these. I wouldn’t want to start watching something and then be interrupted and never get a chance to finish watching it. I think $4.99 is too much money for these and they won’t sell well. To me they’re something that would do well in a dollar store franchise. So, have any of you ever rented a disposable DVD? If not, would you?

Transformers the movie is releasing on dvd and bluray this week. I’m sure that many home viewers will be rolling out the red home theater carpet for this movie. I went to the Transformers movie website and saw that another Transformers movie is slated to open next summer. I admit, I haven’t seen this movie. I remember the Transformers cartoon and thought it was awful, which is why I haven’t seen the movie. I’ll wait and check it out when it comes onto one of the movie channels on television.

I recently learned about the Kids In Mind website. I’ve got to tell you this is one awesome website. Kids In Mind offers detailed descriptions of movies and dvds. Each description contains basic background information followed by sections rating the categories of sex/nudity, violence/gore and language on a scale from 1 to 10.  It will tell you what’s considered offensive, what attire is worn in the movie that you might not want your child to see and if any substance abuse is featured, among other things. It probably won’t tell you how many times promotional pens are mentioned but it will tell you how many times each different profane word is mentioned. Descriptions are factual and not based on personal enjoyment like reviews. This site is terrific, even if you don’t have children.
