I started reading the rumors that there was going to be a Gossip girl spin off at the end of last year. One of the rumors I’d read was that the spin off would take place within a girls boarding school. I can see where they could have done a lot with that idea. Now I’ve read confirmation that a spin off is on the way and it will be based on when Lily and Rufus were young. In other words it will be a young Lily and a young Rufus and their lives and what led to their dating, pregnancy and breakup. I’m not sure of the thinking behind using this storyline, because aren’t they limiting themselves to writing within a short period of time and wouldn’t be able to write anything that would change current Gossip Girl storylines. Technically it’s being called a prequel, and it will be set in the 1980s and take place in California instead of New York. The May 11 episode of Gossip Girl is supposed to be the pilot, but since it’s reported that the shows will have different casts I don’t understand how they’re going to make that work. I guess we’ll see in May.

Gossip Girl is back on since the first week of September and of course I’ve been watching it. Everyone looks the same as before, noone looks like they’ve taken too many Fenphedra and noone looks like they need any either. The storylines this year are heating up quickly, starting with Nate pimping himself to a much older woman who happens to be Blair’s boyfriend’s mother for money. Blair’s boyfriend wouldn’t sleep with her so I was wondering if he’d turn out to be gay but after he saw Blair kissing Chuck he seemed a bit more responsive. Serena and Dan decided not to be together and in the commercial for next week it looks like they’ll both start moving on but not liking what they see. Jenny’s interning in the fashion industry. I’m enjoying season two so far. Do you watch Gossip Girl? Thoughts? Predictions?

Gossip Girl starts airing new episodes again this week. I like Gossip Girl, it’s one of the shows I have a season pass for on Tivo. This is the show’s first year and it’s been doing well. But, the CW network has decided they will not be showing any new episodes online on their website anymore. Apparently the network is trying to avoid the televised episodes ending up competing with the online episodes. Interestingly enough sales of new episodes on iTunes will continue, so I guess CW isn’t worried about competing against themselves there.

I hadn’t realized online episodes were such a draw. I would much rather watch something on my television than my computer monitor. And what about the people who are still on dial up? How can someone using a 33.6 or 56 bpm modem manage to watch online at all?

Blair’s hosting a ball. Serena calls to invite Dan and overhears Dan talking to a female. When she asks who he’s talking to he says his sister, who it isn’t because his sister has just walked into the room Serena is sitting in. She knows he’s lied and ends the conversation before asking him to go out. Dan, why did you lie, you jerk! We later find out the girl is names Vanessa and she’s Dan’s ex. The two make plans to see a movie.
Blair’s running Jenny around like a slave making arrangements for the ball for Blair. One of the stores loans her a bracelet because they assume she will be going to the ball and they want her to display the bracelet. It’s full of real diamonds and she really likes it. Blair tells Jenny she is not invited to the ball. When will Jenny learn she’s being used?
Nate discovers drugs in his fathers things. He had previously asked his father where his trust fund money went and his father covered and told him he was moving money around and lo and behold the money was back the next day.
In the meantime, Blair tells her minions to find Serena a date.
Rufus goes on a non-date with Serena’s mom. Rufus realizes that he’s being used to make Chuck Bass’ father jealous. I have a sneaking suspicion that these two are going to be getting together some time in the future.
Jenny sneaks into the ball, as does Dan after canceling the movie by lying saying he had a paper to write. Dan interrupts Serena’s date, tells the truth and they kiss. Vanessa sees the two and looks crushed. As it turns out, she thought Dan still loved her. He tells her that was the past. She leaves, and like a jerk he follows. Meanwhile, Jenny’s gotten a little payback on Chuck by baiting him into taking off his clothes. She locks him on the rooftop in his boxers.
Serena and Jenny exchange masks and now look similar. Nate tells Serena he still cares for her, but it’s Jenny he’s talking to. Jenny runs out, with Blair thinking she’s Serena until her bracelet comes off. She is not pleased.
Dan and Serena meet back up and make peace. Dan and Vanessa agree to figure out how to be friends. Nate goes home and discovers his mother also found the drugs, except his father didn’t admit they were his so his mother thinks he’s using.

You may remember from last week Serena and Blair made up.
This weeks episode has Blair clearly feeling like a second class citizen to Serena. Blair’s claws starting coming out when she woke up and came downstairs to find Blair breakfasting with her mother. The two girls go shopping and run into Dan, for whom Blair has a snide remark. Serena and Dan agree they will try again to go on a date.
We then learn that Blair’s mother (a designer) needs a model for her line. Serena volunteers Blair in an everyone else step backward kind of way. Things do not go well at the test shoot until Serena steps in and the girls are playful. Serena is supposed to leave for her date with Dan, but cancels because Blair says she needs her there. Serena invites Dan to go to the photo shoot the next day.
The photographer doesn’t like Blair in front of the camera, but he does like the shots of Serena. So Mummy fires Blair but doesn’t tell her she’s going to use Serena as the model. Nor does she tell Serena that Blair won’t be at the shoot. Blair goes to the photo shoot anyway, sees Serena modeling the clothes. Yet again insecure Blair’s claws come ou and the two start arguing in the stairwell, just as Dan arrives. Dan speaks with Serena admits she likes him. Dan sits down with Blair in the hall and tells her about his mother. Blair actually seems to be listening. Blair then confronts and speaks her mind to her mother, who admits what she did.
In the meantime, Chuck had organized a weekend for his junior class. An old schoolmate appears that he doesn’t like, probably because the guy says he gave up all his money and as been adventuring around the world. Nate is attracted to the devil may care attitude and arranges to meet the guy at a card game. Chuck once again shows displeasure at not being the center of attention. Chuck learns his watch and collectors baseball have been taken by the old schoolmate and texts Nate asking where he is. Nate answers with the location and that they’ll talk later. Nate then loses big at the card game, at which time we learn that the guy was in on it and they were setting Nate up for his money. Chuck walks in and saves the day by telling the old schoolmate he won’t report the theft and the guy can keep the watch and baseball if the group forgets about the Nate’s debt from his loss. Nate checks his bank account because he is going to pay Chuck back the money. He doesn’t see a balance so he calls the bank and learn his father drained his trust fund.

Tivo’s season pass allows the viewer to schedule all or just some episodes of a tv series. This list doesn’t include what we watch occasionally, anything we watch on a whim , movies or news - it’s just current recurring series.
